Changing eating habits soda or other sweetened beverages with water was able to reduce by 1.8 to 2.2 kg body weight within six months.
The findings, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition adds to a long line of white water benefits. Previous research has also shown that the water helps reduce the risk of bladder cancer.
Research conducted on 318 obese people and is divided into three groups. The first group to replace calorie drinks with water, a second group of soft drink consumption and the third group to control group.
Six months later, three members of the group experienced a slight decrease in weight and waist size. However, the group tends to consume water changes twice as likely to lose a five percent or more of their body weight compared with those who do not change the habit of eating a soft drink.
"Changing the drinks nonkalori is easy and simple way to lose weight or maintain your weight does not go up," said Deborah Tate, a professor of nutrition and healthy behaviors in Gilling School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina, as reported by Dailymail, Monday (20/2).
In addition, the researchers also found that people who consume water always has a lower glucose levels during fasting and hydration levels better than the control group.
Tate added the percentage of weight loss and low blood sugar levels is important because both are associated with increased risk factors for obesity-related chronic diseases.
"If done on a large scale, this can lower the obesity-related public health issues significantly," he added.
